Camp Jernee provides custom designed recreational, educational
and leadership programs for children and adults. Jerry Socherman and

Jerry started working with children when he was in high school as
a summer camp counselor at the Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community
Center in Kendall. He spent the next 16 years at the JCC working in the
Children and Family Services Department as he moved from counselor to
supervisor to Department Manager and ultimately Camp Director. Along the
way, Jerry received a Bachelors degree in Sociology from the University
of Miami and a Masters degree from Barry University in Human Resource
Development Administration.
Bonnee has degrees in Early Childhood Development and Teaching.
She taught Early Childhood for twelve years at Congregation Bet Breira
and spent five years as the director of the preschool summer camp. In
1999, Bonnee joined Jerry at the Alper JCC and served as the Children
and Teen Director and the Assistant Camp Director. In 2004, Bonnee
received the Advanced Director’s Credential from the Department of
Children and Families.
Camp Jernee is a Dade and Broward County School Partner, volunteering
their time to several schools and school based organizations providing
Leadership training and Teambuilding. Bonnee and Jerry have been
presenters and facilitators at career days, field days, leadership
conferences and PTA meetings. Camp Jernee is also working with
Communities in Schools to provide leadership training and teambuilding
to students at Edison Senior High. The program is specifically designed
to help these teens work towards improving their FCAT scores. Camp
Jernee has been proud to provide trainings for local organizations
including the Drug Free Youth In Town (DFY IT) and Hands on Miami. They
also utilize their knowledge of programming and commitment to the South
Florida community by partnering on projects with Burger King’s
charitable foundation, BK Cares.
In addition to their affiliation with
many local organizations, schools and clubs, Jerry and Bonnee are both
professional members of the American Camping Association and have been
presenters at the Tri-state camping conference in New York City. They
also are members of the National After School Association and the
